About Us
For nearly six decades, the North Shore Parochial League (NSPL), also known as the North Shore Catholic League, has been a cornerstone of youth athletics in Southeastern Wisconsin. Founded in 1966, the league began with a simple goal: to provide a competitive and supportive basketball program for boys in grades 6–8 across the North Shore communities.
As the years passed, our vision expanded:
- 1975 – Girls’ volleyball was introduced, opening new opportunities for young athletes.
- 1978 – Girls’ basketball for grades 5–8 was added, further strengthening our commitment to inclusivity and growth.
And recently, we've added 4th grade teams to all sports.
Today’s League
The North Shore Parochial League continues to thrive, offering:
- Girls’ Volleyball (4th–8th grade)
- Girls’ Basketball (4th–8th grade)
- Boys’ Basketball (4th–8th grade)
Our Mission
The NSPL exists to do more than organize games. Our purpose is to:
- Develop and foster physical skills, sportsmanship, self-discipline, respect for authority, and courtesy to others.
- Provide a structured organization so that youth from member schools and parishes can participate in interscholastic competition.
Membership & Eligibility
- Membership is open to parochial schools and parish programs committed to the league’s mission.
- Players must be in grades 4–8 and either attend a member school or be active parishioners in religious education programs.
- Age requirements are set by grade level (e.g., under 12 for 5th grade, under 15 for 8th grade).
- Rosters, parental permission, and proof of physical exams are required to ensure safety and fairness.
Rules & Standards
The NSPL is guided by clear expectations:
- All members follow Archdiocesan policies and NSPL rules.
- Coaches and supervisors are responsible for maintaining order and good conduct among players and spectators.
- Host gyms must provide safe, supervised facilities.
- Forfeitures, rescheduling, and eligibility violations are handled according to league policy, with penalties when necessary.
Governance
The league is managed by an Executive Board, which includes a President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary, Volleyball Coordinator, Basketball Coordinator, and Basketball Officials Coordinator. This board oversees scheduling, rules, finances, and the overall health of the league.
Commitment to Community
We believe sports are about more than competition—they’re about building character, teamwork, and lifelong friendships. Our league provides a safe, structured environment where young athletes can challenge themselves, grow in confidence, and represent their schools and communities with pride.
